Descriptions

Swimming

RISR Swimming Academy, coached by Ms. Lukwha, the goalkeeper for the Thai National Women’s Water Polo Team that won Gold Medal in the 28th SEA Games in 2015, and by Mr. Eugene, with over 10 years of teaching experience and coach for both BISAC (Bangkok International Schools Athletics Conference) and FOBISIA (Federation of British International Schools in Asia) offers three levels of swim classes:

  1. Beginner Swimming
  2. Intermediate Swimming
  3. Competitive Swimming

Each level teaches skills that take time to master. It is reasonable to expect swimmers to advance approximately one level per year, not per session. We take pride in the quality of our lessons, and it is important that swimmers master each level before advancing as follows:

Beginner Swimming

Swimmers learn the basic mechanics of swimming with support in the shallow end. Safety rules and introductory life-saving techniques are also taught at this level.

Swimmers will be introduced to:

  • Entering and exiting the pool
  • Floating front and back
  • Coordinating arm and leg movement
  • Proper breathing techniques

Intermediate Swimming

Swimmers begin to swim without support in the shallow end. The course builds upon the skills gained from “Beginner Swimming” course. Safety rules and introductory life-saving techniques are also taught at this level.

Swimmers will be introduced to:

  • Front and back crawl
  • Sidestroke
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Treading water

Competitive Swimming

At this level, the strokes will be practiced across the width of the pool to improve strength, consistency and technique. Swimmers have already mastered all stroke basics. Strokes will be fine-tuned and swimmers will be introduced to racing techniques, more advanced diving skills, lifesaving, and water safety skills.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo Academy coached by Mr. Ryan, is a 5th Degree Black belt and a certified Taekwondo instructor. He was a national Taekwondo exponent who had competed in international competitions such as SEA Games and Asian Games since 2007. He is also a postgraduate from the University of Malaya, Malaysia majoring in Sports Science and currently Head Instructor at International Taekwondo Academy.

Taekwondo is a wonderful martial art that provides young children physical skills and mental strength. Students learn the basic foundation of Taekwondo such as punching, kicking, blocking, and self-discipline based on the student's belt level, starting from white belt to black belt. Besides that, International Taekwondo Academy conducts its teaching based on sports science methodology to improve children's physical development such as muscular strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination systematically. Students will also learn to build social skills, respect and confidence while interacting with other students and instructors in a fun environment.

(**Please note that for this activity students will require to purchase a DOBOK- Korean Martial Arts uniform- for inquiries ask Mr. Ryan. THIS FEE IS SEPARATE AND NOT included in the Weekend Academy Fee**)

Badminton

Badminton Academy coached by Mr. Praphoj Unpudsa, who is currently a varsity badminton coach for RIS Minburi Campus. Students will develop the basic skills necessary to play the game of badminton. Technical skills include the overhead and the underhand clears, the short and low serve, the high and deep serve, drop shots, and the smash. Instruction will include an emphasis on the fundamental strategies and rules used in both singles and doubles play. Basic fitness and training principles will be applied to the game of badminton. Students are to bring their own badminton racquets. Shuttlecocks will be provided.

Soccer

Kiddy-Kicks Academy is Bangkok’s first soccer-specific physical play program for children aimed at giving children their very first start with the ball. They provide a challenging environment for children of different ages and stages of development through structured play, with specially designed footballs, music, action, songs, and rhymes, and is designed to develop a child’s physical skills of coordination, balance, and dexterity. The program is structured to develop each child’s positive personality traits, building confidence and self-esteem, and subtly introduce the very first steps of soccer skills and techniques. Each session is led by trained staff and is structured according to the different ages and stages of a child’s development.

Little Kicks Ages 2-4/ Pre Academy Ages 5-6

An essential component of the session is the warm-up. Even at a very early age, it is important to encourage children to do a gentle warm-up and stretches. Students will also concentrate on fun and games which are centered on increasing the children’s motor skills whilst giving an introduction to football. They provide opportunities to practice the core exercises and skills in a fun and relaxed setting. The games allow children to play collaboratively and cooperatively with purpose, intention, and concentration. All activities are carried out to nursery rhymes and playful music. This way the child is already learning to stay in time with a beat as well as memorizing the nursery rhymes.

Academy Ages 7-12

Players polish their techniques through short cycle circuits where they are asked to use a specific skill and deductive reasoning to successfully conquer the presented challenge. Players are also encouraged to take players on may it be 1vs1, 3vs 3, or in-game situations.

(**Please note that for this activity there would be a one-time payment football uniform fee of 1,000 baht supplied by Kiddy-Kicks. THIS FEE IS SEPARATE AND NOT included in the Weekend Academy Fee**)

Basketball

Slamdunk Basketball Academy offers two levels of training:

  • Grassroot for ages 3-5
  • Developmental for ages 6-12

Working with Jr. NBA-certified Coach, this program ensures that each player's performance on the court exceeds their pre-set goals through detailed and efficient training. The training focuses on developing fundamental skills, improving weaknesses, polishing the strength, and conditioning the athletes to perform at their peak while ensuring the most important factor - kids have fun!!

Youtuber

When you ask students what one of their dream jobs is, many will answer with “YouTuber”. This is not surprising given the fact that children and teenagers are increasingly shifting from watching TV to following their favorite channels on various streaming platforms. Taught by Tomas Tarr, a program designer, is a popular influencer from Bangkok with over 500,000 followers on TikTok, where his videos have been liked over 5.5 million times. With his expertise and guidance, this activity is designed to maximize the benefit for students. Students will learn how to:

  • Analyze interests
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Creativity
  • Improving public speaking skills
  • Mastering a range of filming techniques and camera movements
  • Using a range of video editing software
  • Choosing appropriate lighting setups
  • Staying safe online when posting content and engaging with the audience
  • Managing and analyzing their own YouTube channel
